Chad Timney is the Founder and CEO of The Ranch TX, a premier tactical training facility and content production venue dedicated to enhancing survivability and operational readiness for military, law enforcement, government agencies, and private sector clients.
With extensive experience in high-risk training environments, security operations, and facility development, Chad has built The Ranch TX into a tier-one destination for advanced tactical training, scenario-based exercises, and real-world mission preparation. His expertise spans CQB, firearms training, tactical mobility, and force-on-force engagements, making The Ranch a trusted partner for elite professionals nationwide.
Beyond training, Chad leads Ranch Media (RM), a cutting-edge content production division that provides brands with authentic, high-impact tactical content. Director of Mobility Training
Martin Oviedo serves as the Director of Mobility and Business Development at The Ranch TX, overseeing civilian, law enforcement, and government training contracts. With over 30 years of combined experience across military, law enforcement, private security, and high-threat international operations, Martin is committed to delivering mission-critical training that enhances survivability and operational readiness for students around the world.
Martin is a highly respected leader in mobility and protective operations, known for his expertise in high-threat environments, tactical decision-making, and real-world scenario training. His instruction has helped prepare thousands of military personnel, law enforcement officers, and civilian protectors to perform under pressure in dynamic, life-threatening conditions.
Martin’s experience includes service as a Protective Security Specialist Team Leader and Tactical Commander under the Department of State’s Worldwide Personal Protective Services (WPPS) contract in Iraq. He held leadership roles with Triple Canopy and Blackwater from 2005 onward, where he was responsible for mission planning, training, and execution of high-risk diplomatic protection operations. His teams provided armed security for U.S. diplomats and reconstruction personnel in volatile regions, including oversight of low-profile and high-profile protection teams, advance site surveys, and tactical extractions.
Martin also served on the International Training Incorporated (ITI) staff from 2010, where he functioned as a Master Instructor in firearms, security operations, and mobility programs, while also managing site operations. Since 2016, he has worked as an Adjunct Instructor for Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) and DCJS Virginia, teaching courses such as Interior Response (Level I), Tactical Medical (Level II), Exterior Response to Active Shooter Events, and the Active Attack Integrated Response, including Train-the-Trainer certifications.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Martin served as a Platoon Sergeant in a Weapons Company and later as a Military Police Officer, holding positions as Patrol Sergeant and Watch Commander. He was also a Deputy Sheriff in Bexar County, Texas, where he served in the patrol division, warrant division, magistrate duty, and bike patrol supervision. Additionally, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he was selected as Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of a six-man PSD for high-ranking generals, congressional delegates, and coalition dignitaries.
Martin’s instruction reflects decades of leadership, real-world operations, and a relentless commitment to preparing protectors for the most demanding scenarios.

Instructor – Tactical Medicine, Mobility & Rescue Operations
Kirk Scheel brings decades of real-world experience to The Ranch TX, with a deep background in military leadership, firefighting, tactical medicine, and specialized rescue operations.
Kirk served 12 years in the Texas and Mississippi Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Captain and commanding a Mechanized Infantry Company. Following his military service, he dedicated 21 years to the Kerrville Fire Department, retiring in 2016 as a seasoned firefighter and Licensed Paramedic.
Throughout his career, Kirk earned numerous advanced certifications, including:
Kirk also served as the Senior Tactical Medic for the Kerrville Police Department’s Special Operations Unit, integrating medical expertise into high-threat law enforcement operations.
In the private sector, Kirk was a Senior Instructor at ITI Texas in Pearsall, delivering tactical, medical, and mobility training under multiple managing companies including G4S and Academi. In 2016, he deployed with ITI’s international training team to Bogotá, Colombia, where he instructed U.S. Embassy staff in advanced driving techniques and threat response.
Kirk has had a Level IV (PPO) Security Certification and brings a rare blend of tactical readiness, emergency medical expertise, and instructional experience to every class he leads.

Instructor – Tactical Medicine, Mobility & Fire/Specialized Rescue Operations
Monty Johnson brings decades of real-world experience to The Ranch TX, with a deep background in military leadership, firefighting, tactical medicine, specialized rescue operations, and SWAT operations.
Mojo has served with the City of Kerrville Fire Department for almost 28 years and is currently a Lieutenant/Paramedic with Station 3, C Shift on Engine Company 3. During his tenure, he has served in every specialized team the department has operated, including the former Water Operations Team (Dive/Swiftwater), where he holds an Advanced Swiftwater Technician certification, the former Chlorine HazMat Team, the KFD Honor Guard, and the Technical Rescue Team (TRT). He chaired the Field Training Officer (FTO) Task Force, leading the department’s in-house academy, and serves on the Active Threat Task Force. Monty also served on the former Special Operations Unit as a Tactical Medic and currently serves as the Tac Med Team Leader for the Hill Country Regional SWAT Team.

Monty was raised in a military family—his father served in both the Army and Marine Corps—which shaped his lifelong passion for tactical operations. A dedicated martial artist, Monty has taught in multiple disciplines and was a SPEAR/PDR instructor through Blauer Tactical.
When he’s not dragging hose, bandaging wounds, shooting, or driving fast, Mojo enjoys spending time on horseback, playing golf, and being with his four grown kids and beautiful granddaughter, Brenleigh.

Her work showcases The Ranch’s world-class programs, elite instructors, and purpose-built environment in a way that resonates with tactical professionals, private security teams, and civilian protectors alike.

Commercial Training Advisor
Matt is a United States Marine Corps veteran. Prior to the Marine Corps Matt worked for 2 years as a Martial Arts instructor for a school aged martial arts program and as a student, training in Muay Thai, Boxing, Kali Escrima and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Matt started shooting competitively in 2011 and through 2013 competed in USPSA, IDPA and 3 Gun.
He has over 125 hours of professional training from some of the most highly regarded instructors in the industry including Mike Pannone, Aaron Cowan, Scott Jedlinski (as a student, RSO and Assistant Instructor), Bill Blowers, Jared Reston, Kerry Davis, Steve Fischer as well as Green Ops. Matt is also a Modern Samurai Project endorsed Red Dot Pistol Instructor
From 2018 to 2020 Matt worked as the customer service representative, Quality Control and Law Enforcement sales representative for Sons of Liberty Gun Works. Matt’s focus is on the performance use of firearms for civilians in defensive roles helping new shooters develop strong mindsets, efficient technique, enhanced self-awareness and confidence.
He is also an NRA certified pistol instructor and a Certified AR-15 Armorer. Matt has been a concealed carry license holder in Florida (2007-2008) North Carolina (2009-2011), Oklahoma (2011-2013) and Texas (2016-present).
